Partnership to support pathways for job seekers

28 Apr 2022

Darebin City Council, Merri-bek City Council, Yarra City Council, IntoWork and the Inner North Community Foundation have entered into a 30-year partnership to support pathways for job seekers in the inner north.

Funding from IntoWork will support the ‘Pathways to Employment Fund’ with an annual contribution of over $200,000 for the next 30 years and funding that contributes to core operational costs of the Foundation.

This further strengthens the existing partnership between the five organisations and recognises the value of the Foundation’s role to grant funds, create opportunities for employment and support in helping people to find work in the inner north.

Since 1983, Darebin, Merri-bek and Yarra Councils have worked through IntoWork to strengthen and deliver pathways to employment in the Inner North. IntoWork founded the Inner North Community Foundation to support the achievement of the shared objective of fostering employment opportunities and economic inclusion in the Inner North.

Through this arrangement Darebin, Merri-bek and Yarra Councils have relinquished their controlling interest in IntoWork and have committed to support an enduring partnership to benefit job seekers in the inner north.

The Inner North Community Foundation was established in 2007 by IntoWork as a means of ensuring the corporate success of IntoWork could be translated into a perpetual social, economic and financial contribution to the local community.

The Foundation is an independent community foundation and is trustee for the Inner North Community Foundation Charitable Fund and Public Fund. It manages philanthropic dollars to provide funds for projects that create prosperous, connected, and cohesive communities in Melbourne's Inner North.

IntoWork was established in 1983 by the predecessor Councils of Darebin, Merri-bek and Yarra Councils as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee with the objective of providing industry training and placement services in the communities they represented.  IntoWork is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
