Transfer stations, resource recovery centres and landfills

There is a privately run transfer station in Brunswick East, as well as public transfer stations and resource recovery centres in nearby municipalities.

A transfer station or resource recovery centre is a place where you can recycle or dispose of a range of items. These items can include concrete, timber, metal, batteries, chemicals, furniture and hard rubbish. Some items will be recycled while other items will go to landfill.

Before visiting a transfer station or resource recovery centre, it is a good idea to go to their website or call them to check what items they will accept . You can also find out how the site disposes of items and if any charges will apply. Some sites may accept recyclable items free of charge.

You can also use our hard waste collection service each year to dispose of a range of items. If you need to dispose of items outside of the hard waste periods and can't get it to a transfer station, you can use EcoActiv. The EcoActiv service can provide collection directly from your home for some items. The service may come with a fee depending on the item and its weight.
